We now shine the spotlight on Mya Haines. She is the daughter of April and David Belanger. Mya has been an active member in the school's Civil Rights Club. During her junior year, Mya attended the nursing program at the Caribou Regional Career and Tech. Center where she obtained her CNA certificate. She has hopes of one day becoming an OBGYN. The next senior in the spotlight is Russell Farley III. He is the son of Russell Jr and Freda Farley. During his high school career, Russell has been a part of the Woodworking Club, Varsity Club, Soccer, and Baseball teams. Russell is often the first student at school in the morning, equipped with a "good morning" and a friendly smile and wave. Directly after graduation, Russell will be heading off to Basic Training to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. The Marine motto Semper Fidelis means "always faithful" or "always loyal." Russell's hard work and dedication already embody this core value. This senior spotlight shines on Kyli Farley. She is the daughter of Mike and Angela Farley. Kyli is a member of the Varsity Club, and NHS. It is no surprise that playing sports is Kyli's favorite hobby. During her four years she has been a member of the Soccer, Basketball, Softball, XC and Track n' Field teams. Playing sports has not been her defining moment, Kyli is most proud of her academic accomplishment of being inducted into the National Honor Society. Kyli will be attending the University of Maine at Presque Isle majoring in Accounting. She leaves WDHS with this quote from Wilson Kanadi, "To be the best, you must be able to handle the worst." The spotlight now shines on Arianna Elliott. She is the daughter of James and Hannah Elliott. Arianna has been an active member of the school's Civil Rights Club, FFA, and a member of the Softball team. She is a gifted artist, and is involved in the Gifted and Talented Visual Arts program. In her down time here at school, Arianna can often be found in the Art room working on a new masterpiece or learning new techniques. Arianna plans to attend UMPI, however in her words, "I'm taking a gap year so I can build my house." If you know Arianna, you know she will accomplish all she put her mind to! She leave WDHS with this quote, "High school was easy. It was like riding a bike. Except the bike was on fire and the ground was on fire and everything was on fire. HELP!" Julian Echeverria is our next senior in the spotlight. Julian is the son of Trina Farley and Mitchel Knight. Julian is a member of the Baseball team, XC teams as well as Track n' Field. He is also a member of the Varsity Club and Woodworking Club. Julian has shown grit and determination through the years not only for the teams he has played on, but in the classroom and community as well. Recently he has joined the Washburn Fire Department as a Junior Firefighter and completed the EMT-Basic Course through NMCC. Julian will be attending Southern Maine Community College in the fall. He leaves WDHS with this quote, "Just Do It!" Congratulations, Julian, from all of us at WDHS

Principal Worcester along with the staff of Washburn District High School are proud to announce Liddia Collins and Arianna Elliott as Co-Students of the Month for April. Both ladies are seniors at Washburn District High school. Liddia is the daughter of David and Dawn Collins. She is described by Ms. Jones as “…so thoughtful. Her writing in English shows how kind-hearted and family oriented she is.” Liddia is a member of Civil Rights, the National Honor Society and a member of the GT Visual Arts Program. Arianna is the daughter of James and Hannah Elliott. Ms. Jones comments “…how brilliant she is. She’ll make a great educator of young minds someday when she shares that knowledge and passion of hers.” In her free time, Arianna can often be found in the art room teaching herself new techniques. She is also a member of Civil Rights and the GT Visual Arts Program. Arianna is also a member of the school’s Softball team. Of both girls Mrs. Hemphill states, “they are pleasant young ladies who are joys to have in class.” Congratulations Liddia and Arianna and best wishes upon your graduation!

Our spotlight shines on Gavin Dunagan. Gavin is the son of Candice & Liam Streeter and Dwight Dunagan. Gavin is a member of the Varsity club and played on the Soccer and Baseball teams as well as XC and Track n' field. His most memorable high school moment is from the XC season where he qualified for States reaching a personal record of 19:00 minutes. Gavin's favorite hobbies are running and listening to music and his favorite subject is Chemistry. Gavin plans to attend either the University of New England for Bio Engineering or the University of California at Irvine for Neural Engineering. Gavin leaves WDHS with this quote, "There's always a better future around a dark past, sometimes you just need the right person with you, to guide the way." This spotlight shines on Damien Douglass. Damien is the son of Fay Douglass. Damien has been a member of the Varsity Club as well as played on the Basketball team, and Track n' Field teams. His favorite hobby is playing football. Damien was a team member of the Huskies football team part of the Aroostook Football Club. Damien's favorite subject is History. Our next senior in the spotlight is Seth Doody. Seth is the son of John Doody and Michelle Doody-Dickinson. Seth enjoys riding snowmobiles and dirt bikes, however he has said wearing Red Wings is his favorite hobby! Seth has been a contributor to many projects in the shop during woodworking classes. His most proud moment is helping build the new baseball dugout last year. Seth will be attending NMCC in the fall concentrating on plumbing and heating. He leaves WDHS with this quote, "Never trust a guy in a tunic." Congratulations, Seth!

This Senior Spotlight shines on Devin Dionne. Devin is the son of April & Steve Levesque and Rodney York. Devin has been a member of the Varsity basketball teams the last two years, as well as the civil right club and the school's chorus. Devin's favorite hobbies are hanging out with friends and play basketball. For future plans, Devin would like to become a counselor or a nurse. Devin leaves WDHS with his quote, "Scared? Good! This Senior Spotlight is on Kyla Cunningham. Kyla is the daughter of Darin & Kaylie Cunningham, and Sharidan Gagnon. Kyla has been involved in student government, a manger for the boys basketball team, and a member of the NHS. Through the Business program at Presque Isle Regional Career and Technical Center, Kyla became involved in SkillsUSA. This past year, she had the privilege of serving as a State Officer. Kyla is a budding photographer and spends as much time as she can behind the camera capturing special moments for people. Our Senior Spotlight shines on Liddia Collins. Liddia is the daughter of Dave and Dawn Collins. Liddia has been an active member on the school's Civil Rights team as well as the Gifted and Talented Art program. She also managed the softball team her sophomore year. Liddia's most treasured achievement was her induction into the NHS. When not in school, Liddia can be found spending time with her family. This fall, Liddia will be attending NMCC. Our next Senior Spotlight is on Aidan Churchill. Aidan is the son of Andrew and Kolbie Churchill. Through out his high school career, Aidan has been a member of every varsity sport offered each season of every year. His leadership on the court and fields, as well as his academics earned him a place in the NHS. Aidan has also had a role in the Varsity Club as well as student government. One of Aidan's favorite memories of high school was beating Van Buren in basketball during his junior year. Aidan will be attending UMPI this fall, majoring in Criminal Justice. Today's second senior spotlight is Raegyn Chavez. Raegyn is the daughter of Rodney and Shelley Chavez. Raegyn has been an active member of of the athletic program at WDHS. She has participated in soccer, basketball, XC, track n' field, as well as softball. Besides being a member of the varsity club, Raegyn is also a member of the National Honor Society. Raegyn's favorite hobby is hanging out with friends and family. Of all of her achievements at WDHS, Raegyn is most proud of being inducted into NHS. Raegyn will be attending NMCC for Business in the fall. She leaves WDHS with this quote from Richard Branson, "If your dreams don't scare you, they are too small." Congratulations Raegyn! Beginning today we feature 2 seniors a day for the next couple of weeks. Our first #seniorspotlight is Valerie Bragg. Valerie is the daughter of Troy Bragg and Danielle Corey. Valerie has participated in the civil rights club all four years of high school. Her favorite hobbies are drawing and 3D diamond art. In the future, Valerie would like to become a forensic anthropologist. Valerie leaves WDHS with this quote from Kingdom Hearts, "The heart may be weak and sometimes it may give in, but I've learned deep down there's a light that never goes out."

MSAD #45 will be hosting a COVID Vaccine Clinic on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the Elementary School. The second shot in the series will be given on June 10, 2021. This is in conjunction with Northern Light Health A.R. Gould. This clinic is for ages 12 and up. If you are interested in having your child vaccinated, or have any questions, please contact our nurse, Ruth White at rwhite@msad45.net or 455-4505. Consent forms are available at both the high school and elementary offices and are due back to Ruth by Monday, May 17th.

WDES Parents: The Washburn 21st Century Summer Program staff are diligently planning the 2021 Summer Program. The program will run Monday - Thursday 7:45am - 12:15pm for WDES students who are currently in grades K-8. The program will begin on Monday, June 21 and end Thursday, July 29, 2021. Principal Worcester is is proud to announce Hilary Driscoll and Chelsea Hobbs as Co-Students of the month for March. Both ladies are freshmen at Washburn District High school. Hilary is the daughter of Dale and Marci Driscoll. Mr. Molton describes Hilary as “a model student. She sets a high standard for others to follow completing tasks in a timely manner.” Chelsea is the daughter of Craig and Crystal Hobbs. Chelsea is a member of the Varsity Club participating in varsity sports such as soccer, basketball and softball. “Chelsea has amazing time management” says Mrs. Hemphill. “She participates in sports and is involved in her church all while completing her work well and on time.” The staff at WDHS all agree that both young ladies are dependable, reliable and always willing to help their fellow classmates as well as their teachers. Having a great sense of humor makes them well-liked and a joy to have in class.
