June 23, 2022, marked the 50th anniversary of Title IX which is the name for the federal civil rights law that the United States enacted as part of the Education Amendments of 1972.  This law states that “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any educational program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”  In other words, this law has given women the ability and opportunity to compete in athletic competitions whether it be on a high school, college, or professional level.

We, at Washburn District High School, would like to commemorate this 50-year anniversary by recognizing the women from our school who have participated on State Championship teams across all sports over the years on Friday, February 3, 2023, during our games vs. Easton.

If you played on any State Championship team and are available to join us, please contact Mrs. Hobbs in our front office by Thursday, February 3rd.  The office phone is (207) 455-4501 and the email is chobbs@msad45.net.
