Special Olympics Day
The WDHS NHS Society traveled to Presque Isle to work at the Special Olympics on Friday, May 17. It was a very special day in spite of the bitter cold and wind.
Piano Recital
On May 14, parents and friends were treated to a musical night in the high school library. Mrs. Williams' piano class members performed a selection which displayed what they have learned over this school year. Selections were by Mozart, Bach, Beethoven and others. These students have learned so much in just one year and hopefully they will continue to develop their musical talents!
Prom Night
Senior activities began this past Saturday night with the prom. A beautiful fire & ice theme glowed in the gym and helped everyone to forget the rain outside. The poor weather did not allow for any group photos, but here are some shots that were captured throughout the evening.

Civil War PresentationThursday, May 9th, MSAD #45 had the pleasure of having Secretary of State Dunlap come and speak to approximately 130 students grades 6-12. Club members graciously allowed the school to use the Washburn Trailrunners Snowmobile Club for the presentation. Mr. Matthew Dunlap told students about the men and women in the state of Maine who were impacted by the Civil War. Throughout his talk, he wove bits and pieces about the role of Washburn during the war. Originally, Washburn was called Salmon Brook Plantation, but as a result of the Civil War it was renamed after Governor Washburn. The most famous Mainer, Joshua Camberlain, wanted to be in the war but Mainers wanted him to continue to teach. Students thoroughly enjoyed his presentation and asked questions after he was through speaking.
