Independent Reading Seminar
SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS
READING
| You may read anything that is school-appropriate and is at your reading level. | |
| You will be asked to use 1 audio book (MARVEL will add this feature very soon | |
| You are encouraged to read outside of class. | |
| You are encouraged to read types of material you have never tried to read before. | |
| You are encouraged to continually challenge yourself in your reading. | |
| When you finish one book, you must write a one page (double-spaced, size 12 font) book summary. | |
| You must let the teacher know when you change books. | |
| It is okay to abandon a book if you don’t like it, but you must immediately start another. |
WRITING
| A double-entry journal will be ongoing as you read each book. | |
| A one page summary/will be required for each book. | |
| Several surveys will be filled out in narrative form throughout the course. |
EVALUATION
| Everyone participating in the class will be expected to be prompt, prepared, polite and productive. | |||||||
| You must complete a double-entry journal for every 50 (+/-) pages you read. | |||||||
| You are required to conference with the teacher about your reading at least once every two weeks. | |||||||
| Sharing will be encouraged. Book talks may be scheduled every two weeks to recommend or share a particularly good read. | |||||||
Your
numerical grade will reflect your progress (or lack thereof) and will be
based on both a teacher evaluation and a self-evaluation in each of the
following areas:
