First, create your log-in at ConnectEdu

You will be using this site as you continue through high school. It will allow you to update your profile, keep track of your courses, create a path leading to a college or career.

Now, take an interest profile. Tues/Thurs use this survey. You may already know exactly what you want to do in the future and taking the inventory may not change anything. But, take a few minutes to explore!

You are ready to look at some career options. You'll be looking at the requirements for your chosen career, what to expect for a salary, what the demands are in your chosen field, etc. Before you get started, take a look at the worksheet entitled Ready for the Real World. This is a couple of years old, so keep in mind that costs would have increased.

It's time to explore careers. Start with the Occupational Outlook Handbook This authoritative site from the US Government will tell you:

  • the training and education needed
  • earnings
  • expected job prospects
  • what workers do on the job
  • working conditions

From 1/11 until 1/25, we have access to a high school career database from Ferguson's. Please make use of this often! Get the username/password from me. You will spend most of your time in Job Profile section.

Do not print out pages from the different sites. Instead, keep a journal in a Word document and save it as Careers. You will be graded after each class period for the information you have collected. Keep an account of your interest profile, your Real World worksheet, and all information you discover about your career in OOH & Ferguson's. You will use this data to create your final project.

You will create a poster (either online or poster paper) to share with us giving us this information about your chosen occupation. There is an online poster site : Glogster; Poster Yourself that you may use if you choose to do one on the computer. PowerPoint would also work for this assignment. You MAY NOT start your poster until you have collected all of your research statistics and know exactly what you are planning to pursue in the future. (You may change your mind as soon as we finish this project - and that is OK - but this gives you the tools to explore when you are more certain of your future choices!)
