When pictures really matter, everyone always goes to .... ... ... ... Google!  But, when you need a picture of a chocolate bar and you type in "chocolate," how many results do you get? 25,900,000 results!  Google has been working to refine their image search to reduce the numbers and become more concise.  Suggestions?  Use key-word searches and narrow the search.

IF you include pictures in a project, make sure you document where you found the pictures.  You didn't draw or take the picture, so you have copyright issues if you do not cite the source and give credit to the person who put the image online.  Confused?  Check here about copyright issues

Picsearch - another huge search engine, but it is more refined as it offers a directory.

Pics4Learning - good choice as it is a copyright-free site.

Flikr - this site isn't a search engine and you must register (it's free), but almost all of the pictures are copyright-free.

WikimediaCommons - This is free, but read the quote from the site:  "Unlike traditional media repositories Wikimedia Commons is free. Everyone is allowed to copy, use and modify any files here freely as long as the source and the authors are credited and as long as users release their copies/improvements under the same freedom to others."

Encyclopedia of Life - need pictures from nature (animals, fish, etc.)?  This is it! Click on the small green icon shown on every picture to find out what the copyright restrictions are.
