Arriving at the Library

The high school library is:

bullet A place where educational / school related research is conducted.
bullet A place where reading is encouraged

The high school library is not:

bullet A place where students may gather to talk
bullet A place where students may "surf the net, play games, listen to music"
bullet A place where students may roam
  • The library opens at 7:30 each morning Monday - Friday (earlier when needed)
  • The library closes at 3:00 Monday - Friday (later when needed)
  • A hall pass is needed if coming from a classroom

Study Hall students may use the library, however, there are many times when the library will be closed or have limited availability due to classroom projects.

When you arrive at the library:

  • You are invited to browse the collection, read quietly or conduct research.  Homework should be done in your study hall.
  • If you borrow a magazine, dictionary, scissors, tape, markers, etc., please sign them out on the clipboard next to your name.
  • You are coming to the library to work, so please come prepared. (no passes will be given for lockers or bathroom)
  • Book bags need to be placed out of the walking area.
  • Food and drink are not allowed in the library.
  • When the library is reserved for a class, it will be closed to study hall students.  You can check on availability by looking at the library calendar.

Using the library is a privilege which may be revoked any time a student behaves irresponsibly.

  • If you are asked to leave the library for misbehavior, your first offense will mean a one-week suspension. 
  • The second offense is for 1 month.
  • A third offense is for the remainder of the semester.

Checkin' Out at the Library

Once you have found your books, you need to go to the circulation desk, find your card on the rolodex (alphabetical by last name) and one of our aides will scan your name and your books into our system.  

  • Three week circulation for all books and magazines

  • Check out up to 5 books at a time.

  • Reference books and books on reserve for a class project are overnight check-out only.

  • Renewal period is 3 weeks when necessary.  Remember, others are waiting to read that book!  You will not be charged a fine for an overdue book, but you will be asked to return that overdue book before you check out any others. 

  • Books may be placed on reserve.  We will notify you when the book is returned and ready for you.

Using the Internet at the Library

  1. Never share your password or account with anyone.

  2. Computer use, including Internet access, is limited to educational and school related activities.

  3. Chat rooms, messaging, message boards and e-mail is strictly off limits.

  4. Do not intentionally search for, view and/or distribute inappropriate materials. (e.g. pornography or violence)

  5. Do not give out personal information on the Internet.

  1. Do not use inappropriate language or symbols. Profanity or obscenity will not be tolerated on the school network.

  2. Do not download or install software without the written permission of the network administrator.

  3. Do not use the network for any illegal activities.  (including tampering with computer hardware or software, unauthorized entry into computers, vandalism or destruction of computer files or history. In some cases, such activity is considered a crime under state and federal law.)

  4. Do not deliberately spread computer viruses.

  1. Do not use a school account to post anonymous or false information.

  2. Do not vandalize computers, software, network devices or data.

  3. Obey the rules of copyright.

You are responsible for your account. 

You will be held accountable for any violations traced to your account.
